

Dr. Deborah Hayes Honored by the Grand Master

On January 27, 2006, the Grand Master of Masons in Colorado, Illustrious and Most Worshipful Brother
Richard W. Schmidt, 33˚, awarded Deborah Hayes, Ph.D., with the highest honor given by Colorado Masons to a non-Mason, the 2005
Distinguished Service Award. Dr. Hayes is the Kelley Family/Schlessman Family Scottish Rite Masons Chair in Childhood Language
Disorders at The Children’s Hospital in Denver. She has worked with the Scottish Rite Foundation of Colorado since 1983 and is
principally responsible for the expansion of RiteCare services statewide.
In recognizing her distinguished career at The Children’s Hospital and service to the Scottish Rite Foundation of Colorado, the
Grand Master highlighted Dr. Hayes’ accomplishments in promoting the speech-language health of Colorado’s children. He emphasized
her collaboration and partnership with the Scottish Rite as an integral part of the Masonic Fraternity’s mission of service
to Colorado youth.
The award was presented during the All Masonic Banquet attended by about 200 Masonic leaders and their guests from across
Colorado. The SGIG and President of the Scottish Rite Foundation of Colorado, Illustrious and Most Worshipful, The Honorable
Stephen M. Munsinger, 33˚, joined with Foundation Trustees John W. Groves, 33˚, Gerald A. Ford, 33˚, and Richard G. Frohlick,
32˚ KCCH, as well as the Foundation’s Executive Secretary, Vernon B. Ingraham, 33˚, and a number of Appraisal Committee
members, representatives from The Children’s Hospital including Martha Drake – the RiteCare Clinic Director in Pueblo and
Valerie Hernandez, the Scottish Rite Program Assistant to Dr. Hayes, and Deborah’s husband Jim Martin in celebrating this
well deserved and prestigious honor. Congratulations Dr. Hayes.
